Janet Shope is the associate dean for faculty affairs. Her responsibilities include oversight of academic assessment and faculty development (such as teaching discussions and workshops, new faculty orientation and mentoring, travel and research grants, etc.). She is also a professor of sociology in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. She came to Goucher in 1989 after earning her Ph.D in sociology from The George Washington University and her B.S. in sociology from Birmingham Southern College. Her scholarship on gender issues, in the United States and South Africa, includes articles and a book, Paid to Party: Working Time and Emotion in Direct Home Sales.
